Alfre Woodard (1953-present)

Alfre Woodard is Oklahoma's best known and most successful African American actress and one of the state's most prolific performers. Born in 1953 in Tulsa, Woodard graduated from Bishop Kelley High School and then studied at Boston University’s School of Fine Arts.

She has had roles in more than 50 films and has made numerous television appearances during her career. Woodard, who appeared in 2014’s best picture Oscar winner, “Twelve Years a Slave,” has enjoyed a distinguished film career, earning an Oscar nomination, four Emmy Awards, three Screen Actors Guild Awards and a Golden Globe Award during the years. In 2014 she was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame for her outstanding service to Oklahoma and to the United States.
