Early Tulsa: Osage Buffalo Hunters

The rich grasslands along the Arkansas River around Tulsa were once home to huge herds of American bison, usually called buffalo, and were considered by the Osage as their hunting grounds. However, by 1874 most of the buffalo were gone.
