About Renaissance Brewing Company
The quaint brick building on the corner of 12th St. and Lewis Ave. is home to Renaissance Brewing Co. Look a little more closely at the tree logo and you’ll find hands holding up greenery. The spitting image of the Renaissance Neighborhood logo, the imagery conveys the importance of the surrounding community from which Renaissance grew. With big open windows and ample natural light, the brewery welcomes you with open arms. Grab a beer, stop for a few minutes and watch as neighborhood life steadily unfurls around you.
Renaissance keeps twelve taps behind the bar, a few of them staples. In this category, you’ll find Renaissance Gold (a German golden ale,) Indian Wheat (a spiced Heifeweizen) and their Gamma Ray IPA. Rotating seasonal beers can be straightforward like their lager and brown ale. Weirder options include El Jefe, named after boss man Glenn Hall. This beer is a Mexican lager but darker with more caramel notes added than most. Try the Dragon’s Breath pepper beer, the golden ale fermented with serrano peppers. Meanwhile, the Nighthawks Coffee Porter uses beans roasted by local coffee roaster Happenstance Coffee. It takes a village to brew a good beer, and Renaissance does it well.
